What is the Average Cost for a Facelift?

The average cost for a facelift varies from provider to provider and depends on your age, health and the amount of work you need.

Facelift Overview

A facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the face and neck and reduce the signs of aging. It is one of the oldest and most popular cosmetic interventions, dating back more than a century. In the early days, results were not uniformly acceptable. Today though, improvements in techniques yield natural-looking outcomes.

Procedure

Before carrying out your facelift, Dr. Farole will talk to you about your current state of health and goals. You’ll then form realistic expectations of the likely outcome for your particular case.

Dr. Farole carries out facelifts under general anesthetic. Once you’re unconscious, he will make a small incision behind the ear along natural folds in the skin, thereby allowing the skin to move more freely across the face.

The direction surgery takes after this depends on your particular cosmetic needs. For instance, some patients require adjustment of the muscles and ligaments that form the face’s substructure. Others need thinning of subsurface fat pads to achieve a more natural result.

Once Dr. Farole completes these procedures, he tightens the skin and reattaches it behind the ear. At this point, your complexion looks more toned and youthful, rejuvenating your appearance.

Facelifts typically take between three and four hours to complete. Many patients opt to have additional treatments during the procedure, such as eyelid surgery, neck lift, or forehead lift, during surgery.

Recovery

How long recovery takes depends heavily on the extent of surgery you require, your age, and your overall physical condition. Younger patients, for instance, tend to heal more rapidly than older ones. Similarly, those requiring less invasive procedures tend to recover faster than those needing more.

In general, you should schedule between one and three weeks for recovery following a facelift. Usually, you can apply makeup again after about two weeks, once the swelling subsides.

Cost of a Facelift

The cost of a facelift depends on various factors, including hospital and facility fees, surgeon fees, fees for the anesthetic, post-surgery garments, medical testing fees, and prescription medication expenses. Thus, the final amount that you pay can vary considerably from provider to provider.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates the average cost of a facelift is $7,467. Keep in mind, this statistic is based upon 2019 statistics and does not include OR fees, anesthesia fees, and other associated costs.

Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?

If you have any of the following aesthetic issues, you may be a good candidate for a facelift:

  • Loose skin around the jowls
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Deep wrinkles
  • Nasal folds

Furthermore, you should be in good overall health to minimize the risk of complications and shorten healing time.

Smokers should abstain for several weeks both before and after surgery.
