Microneedling is a popular cosmetic procedure that aims to improve a variety of skin concerns ranging from skin tone and texture to fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Anthony Farole is a leading facial cosmetic surgeon that offers a variety of microneedling treatments. From his practice in Bala Cynwyd, PA, Dr. Farole and his team offer customized microneedling treatments for all his patients.
About Microneedling
Microneedling involves the insertion of some short, extremely fine needles into the skin. Each of those microneedles is around 0.5 – 2.5 mm in diameter and feels more like a pinprick than a needle is inserted in the skin.
When microneedles go into the skin, they create “micro-injuries” or micro-punctures (surface-deep punctures in the skin) at very precise depths within the dermis. The purpose is to help increase levels of natural collagen and elastin in the skin, eventually resulting in a rejuvenated skin appearance.
More patients are preferring this form of collagen induction therapy to other cosmetic treatments as it’s a quick and cost-effective way to make their skin look more youthful. Results of microneedling sessions can be seen within three to four weeks after treatment.
Dr. Farole and his team use the powerful INTRAcel PRO–RF microneedle handheld device in each treatment session. This device provides a unique combination of microneedling and radiofrequency techniques. It delivers three-layer deep therapy to the skin, ensuring an optimal outcome.
What Are Micro-Injuries?
When a patient opts for microneedling treatments, their skin will be subject to micro-injuries. But, don’t fear, that’s the desired effect of microneedling. Those tiny punctures to the skin is how the treatment works to resolve skin issues.
When micro-injuries occur, focused radio frequency wavelengths are able to target deeper layers of skin.
Each microneedling session only takes around half an hour to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. The thing to remember about micro-injuries is that any side effects, such as slight redness or swelling, subside after just a few hours.
Benefits of Microneedling
The primary benefit of microneedling is how it’s not an invasive cosmetic procedure but it can still provide drastic results. All microneedling patients don’t have any surgery as part of their treatment, and so there’s no recovery process that puts people out of action.
Any side effects of the treatment, such as redness and swelling, typically subside within 24 hours. Perhaps the biggest benefit of all is that it’s cost-effective, making the treatment available to most potential microneedling candidates.
Am I a Candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment for both men and women, and is useful at tackling scarring, the effects of aging, and even hair loss and hair thinning.
The treatment should be avoided if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have open wounds, have skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, or had radiation therapy within the last 12 months.
