Facelift

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a facial rejuvenation procedure designed to reverse the signs of aging. Men and women have been using facelifts for over 100-years to correct their mid-face cosmetic concerns. Modern techniques, however, are providing patients with a more natural-looking outcome.

*How Does It Work?

Facelifts are performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Farole will make small incisions behind the ears along the natural folds of the skin to minimize scarring. Several techniques can be used depending on your individual needs. Muscles and ligaments are tightened during the surgery. Fat pads can also be adjusted or thinned. Finally, excess skin is tightened and removed giving patients a more youthful appearance.

A facelift can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to perform.

Many patients opt to have additional facial rejuvenation procedures done at the same time for more dramatic results. You may also be interested in eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), a forehead lift, or a neck lift. Dr. Farole can help you determine which procedures might be beneficial to you during your in-person consultation.

Facelift procedures require a good deal of recovery time. A full facelift is not the same for everyone. Depending on your age, physical condition, and extent of surgery, patients are encouraged to allow 1-3 weeks for physical recovery. Makeup can be applied approximately 2-weeks after your surgery.

*Is It Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have visible signs of aging such as deep wrinkles, loose skin, nasal folds, or sagging cheeks and are looking for long-lasting results. Age is not a factor when it comes to facelifts, however, patients should be in good overall health.

Non-smokers are best suited for facelifts. Smokers will be asked to stop smoking for several weeks prior to and after their surgery.

*How Long Does It Take to See Results?

Although swelling can mask results, some initial improvement can be seen directly after your surgery. As swelling subsides results become more evident. The majority of swelling should be gone after 1-month.

Results from your facelift surgery are everlasting. A facelift can leave you looking years younger for a long time to come. Facelift surgery cannot prevent future signs of aging from forming. You may opt to have a maintenance treatment down the line.

*Revision Facelifts

Revision facelifts or ‘secondary’ facelifts may be necessary if desired results were not achieved from the initial surgery. Correcting problems that arise from a previous surgery can be a more complex procedure. It’s always best to choose a highly-skilled, board-certified surgeon such as Dr. Farole when you’re having work done. Dr. Farole uses a variety of surgical techniques to ensure your revision facelift is a complete success.
