Eyelid Surgery for Men

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure that can be done to either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Loose, sagging skin, and under-eye bags can all be corrected with the procedure making it extremely popular among many men. The majority of eyelid surgeries performed are done as a cosmetic procedure to enhance the eyes. However, the procedure can be done for medical reasons as well.

How Does It Work?

At your in-person consultation, Dr. Farole will complete a full assessment and talk to you about your ultimate goals. He will then go over the various techniques that might be beneficial to your specific needs.

Upper eyelid surgery is the most common for patients who only choose to have work done on one lid. The procedure is ideal for fixing puffy eyelids and removing excess skin, muscle, and fat. Upper eyelid surgery is a fairly simple surgery and is typically done with only local anesthetic.

Lower eyelid surgery is a bit more complex and is often done under general anesthesia. Dark circles around the eyes, wrinkles, and bags can all be corrected with a lower eyelid lift.

After your surgery, it’s important to give your body adequate time to heal and not put a strain on your eyes. You’ll be able to go home the same day as your treatment, however, you’ll need to take it easy for the first several days. Normal activities can be resumed about 2-weeks post-procedure.

Is It Right for Me?

Men who are unhappy with their facial appearance, but don’t wish to commit to a full facelift, can benefit from blepharoplasty surgery. If you have excess skin that is causing puffy eyes, droopiness, wrinkles, or vision impairment, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

There is no age-limit when it comes to an eyelid lift. An ideal candidate is a person who is in good overall health and a non-smoker. Because smoking can hinder the healing process, smokers will be asked to stop smoking for several weeks prior to and after surgery to achieve the best possible outcome.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

Immediately following your eyelid surgery, the new shape of your eyes should be able to be seen. Continuous improvement will occur as swelling dissipates over the course of a month or so. The final result is a younger, well-rested appearance.

Eyelid surgery has an extremely high patient satisfaction rate even years later. It’s not uncommon for men to only need one blepharoplasty surgery in their lifetime.
