What to Expect After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Do you look in the mirror and see a nose that does not fit the rest of your face? Rhinoplasty surgery corrects many concerns with nose size, shape, or structure. People choose rhinoplasty for many reasons, making it one of the most popular aesthetic surgical procedures.

What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty surgery is an aesthetic procedure sometimes called a “nose job.” It corrects issues such as a crooked or asymmetrical nose, concerns with the shape of the nose tip or nostrils, and nose size. Dr. Farole customizes each rhinoplasty to make your changes as subtle or noticeable as you prefer. This surgery can also correct functional problems with the nose that interfere with breathing.

How is Rhinoplasty Surgery Performed?

Dr. Farole may perform rhinoplasty surgery under general anesthetic or with local anesthesia, depending on the details of your procedure. He uses small incisions, usually hidden inside the nose (a closed rhinoplasty) but occasionally hidden between the nostrils (an open rhinoplasty). You should have no noticeable scars after the procedure. The incisions allow him to reshape and reposition the cartilage and other structures of the nose.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty Surgery

You can usually go home the same day as your rhinoplasty after a period of monitoring. We will manage your discomfort with medication for the first few days. You can expect bruising and swelling that start to improve after a few days but take several weeks to disappear.

You can resume light activities and usually return to work after two to three weeks. You may still have visible bruising, and residual swelling can last a few months. People with more physically active jobs may require extra time for recovery before returning to their normal duties. Dr. Farole will monitor your progress and clear you to return to more strenuous activities as you heal.

You will see your new profile emerge as the swelling fades. Since aging has no effect on the structure of your nose, your changes will last a lifetime. The vast majority of people feel a tremendous increase in confidence after rhinoplasty surgery.

Functional vs. Aesthetic Rhinoplasty

Not all rhinoplasty surgery addresses aesthetic concerns. A functional rhinoplasty addresses problems with the nose that interfere with breathing or activities. A functional rhinoplasty can address issues such as a deviated septum, which occurs when the divider between the nostrils becomes pushed out of place, often from an injury. It can also correct many other functional breathing concerns, which can greatly improve your quality of life.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty is appropriate for most healthy adults who want to change their noses. Good candidates have clear goals and reasonable expectations. Dr. Farole will assess your nasal structures to determine whether your goals are achievable. All candidates should plan to take the recommended recovery time since trying to rush can compromise your results.

Dr. Anthony Farole is the best. I came in very scared and afraid. Dr. Farole and his wonderful staff were very patient with me and helped calm me down. They reassured me that i would be fine and took very good care of me. I felt no pain and the procedure went very smooth. Thank you so much for a job well done!
