When you think of your post-facelift life, you probably picture living each day with smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin.
But what about those crucial days that occur right after your facelift?
That’s why we’re sharing the four best tips for taking care of your skin immediately after a facelift. From the best sleeping position to skincare, here’s what you need to know about post-op skincare.
4 Tips for Sleeping & Taking Care of Your Skin After a Facelift
1. Sleep with your head elevated.
For the first two to four weeks, it’s recommended that you sleep on your back with an extra pillow under your head. You may also want to keep extra pillows next to your sides to prevent yourself from turning onto your side in your sleep.
Here’s why: Sleeping with your head elevated is crucial for reducing post-op swelling and bruising. Additionally, avoiding sleeping on your side or stomach ensures you don’t accidentally open up your surgical wounds.
2. Don’t pick your scabs!
It may be tempting, but avoid scratching or picking at your facial scabs while they’re healing. If you pick too much, your surgical wounds may end up leaving behind a noticeable facial scar. If your wounds itch while they heal, ask your facial surgeon for a recommended cream or solution to ease discomfort.

3. Wear plenty of sunscreen.
If you want to avoid facial scarring, make sure you put on plenty of sunscreen before heading outside. Your surgical wounds are especially vulnerable to the sun’s UV rays while they heal, so sunscreen is crucial for preventing the formation of facial scars. Ask your facial surgeon for recommended sunscreens that are ideal for sensitive post-op skin.
4. Drink plenty of water.
The best skin care starts from the inside, so make sure you drink plenty of water while recovering from your facelift. We recommend drinking six to eight glasses of water each day to ensure your skin is healthy and strong after your surgery.
