How Is a Neck Lift Done?

A neck lift or “lower rhytidectomy” is a popular cosmetic procedure that addresses excess skin and fat around the jawline and results in a more contoured and youthful-looking neck. It’s often done along with a facelift and offers long-lasting results for patients.

Neck rejuvenation procedures such as neck lifts are cosmetic treatments offered by Dr. Anthony Farole at his facial cosmetic surgery center in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. Dr. Farole is a board-certified cosmetic surgeon who maintains a full-time practice.

Purpose of a Neck Lift

The loss of youthful contours in the face and neck can be due to the aging process. But, other causes include environmental, heredity, and stress factors. A neck lift seeks to address issues like excess neck and chin skin and fat, loose neck skin, and neck muscle banding.

As mentioned earlier, a neck lift often gets performed in conjunction with a facelift. However, many patients prefer to have just a neck lift if they have no cosmetic concerns with the upper part of their face.

It’s important to note that a neck lift cannot stop the aging process, so you may need a maintenance procedure if you see the same effects of aging on your neck in the future.

How Is a Neck Lift Performed?

Dr. Farole begins a neck lift procedure by administering anesthesia; this can be local or general. Dr. Farole will recommend the best option for you, depending on your treatment.

Next, an incision typically gets made behind each ear and under the chin. Dr. Farole uses liposuction to remove excess fat – some of which may get redistributed to create a contoured end result.

Dr. Farole will then tighten the neck muscles and trim any excess skin. Afterward, the incisions get sealed. The locations of the incisions are well-concealed within the hairline and follow the natural contours of the ears.

Neck lifts can get combined with other cosmetic procedures such as facelifts.

Neck Lift Recovery

After your neck lift, Dr. Farole will supply you with some pain relief medication to take as you will likely experience pain, swelling, and bruising after the procedure. You’ll need to spend a few days at home resting in bed so you can avoid moving your neck too much.

You should ideally take around two weeks off work for the recovery process. Most patients return to normal duties at work or other everyday activities around four to six weeks after a neck lift.

It can take several weeks for all swelling, bruising, and incision lines made behind your ears to fade. During the recovery period, you should wear garments that you don’t need to pull over your head and avoid overexposure to the sun.

Benefits of a Neck Lift Surgery

A neck lift is the ideal cosmetic procedure to have if you have excess, sagging skin around your neck, “turkey neck,” or you experience neck banding. If you have cosmetic concerns with your neck due to aging or other causes, a neck lift might be right for you.

Neck lifts can get combined with other cosmetic procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts, and eyelid surgery to create a more youthful appearance. Neck rejuvenation is suitable for all adults that are in good general health.

Another benefit of neck lift surgery is that it gets performed on an outpatient basis and can transform your appearance.

“Very comfortable and safe. The Doctor’s manner was very professional and caring. I appreciated his sense of humor, which helped me relax before he pulled my teeth. I also found his assistant to be very kind and professional as well. I was thrilled to get in so quickly as I was experiencing quite a bit of pain. The receptionist was also helpful and cheery.”
