How Long Does Ear Pinning Surgery Take?

Ear pinning surgery – also known as otoplasty – is a surprisingly short yet life-changing cosmetic procedure that involves correcting ears that may appear too large or just outwards from the patient’s head. Large or misshapen ears can be a source of self-esteem issues for many people, which is why ear pinning can transform how a person feels in his or her own skin.

Facial cosmetic surgeon Dr. Anthony Farole has the inside scoop you need on how long ear pinning surgery takes, including when’s the right time to schedule it for you or your child.

How Long Does Ear Pinning Surgery Take?

All in all, ear pinning surgery takes about two hours to perform.

During this surgery, Dr. Farole will tailor his techniques to fit your precise cosmetic needs. As no two otoplasty procedures are alike, this means that your results will match your facial structure so you won’t have to feel self-conscious about your ear size or shape.

What’s the Recovery Like?

Downtime is very minimal, so you won’t experience too much of a disruption in your schedule. We generally recommend that patients avoid strenuous activity during the first three days after ear pinning surgery. Swelling and bruising will be present for about two weeks but should fade to a minimum after that.

You may need to wear bandages on your ears to help reduce swelling while maintaining the new shape of your ears.

When Should Ear Pinning Be Done?

Ear pinning is commonly performed on children, as it’s a low-risk procedure that can help kids avoid future teasing at school. Otoplasty is popular during the early summer months when kids can wear their bandages without having to worry about going to school.
