 Glabellar Lines

You laugh. You frown. You concentrate. And over time, those expressions leave their mark upon your face. Until today, there wasn’t a lot you could do about it.

But today there’s BOTOX® Cosmetic. A simple, non-surgical procedure that can dramatically reduce even your toughest wrinkle within days. One ten-minute treatment-a few tiny injections-relaxes the muscles between your brows that cause lines to form. And keeps them relaxed up to four months.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adult patients <65 years of age. 1

What is

 Glabellar Lines?

Glabellar lines are the wrinkles between the brows that form when you frown. To make this expression, you move the corrugator and procerus muscles, which are located between and above the brows.
How are frown Lines formed?

Movement of facial muscles can cause the skin between the brows to crease. As skin becomes less elastic over time, repeated frowning may create visible lines and wrinkles-even when your face is relaxed.

How are Frown Lines treated with BOTOX®?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein that relaxes muscles by blocking nerve impulses. With a few tiny injections administered by a physician, BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles that cause skin to crease.1 Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance.

In a clinical study with BOTOX® Cosmetic, the majority of people (82.5%) reported an improvement in the lines between their brows after a week, and results can last up to 4 months.1,2

This simple, safe procedure-a few tiny injections-takes about 10 minutes and can be performed in your doctor’s office. Since the procedure is nonsurgical, no recovery time is needed. After a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, you can get back to work or other activities right away.

Allergan’s BOTOX® product is the only one of its type with over 10 years of success in treating patients with a variety of conditions.3 With dosing specific to treat frown lines, this same product is now available as BOTOX® Cosmetic.

The most common side effects following the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic for frown lines are headache (13.3%), respiratory infection (3.5%), temporary eyelid droop (3.2%), nausea (3.0%), and flu syndrome (2.0%).

Less frequently occurring (<3%) adverse reactions included pain in the face, erythema at the injection site, and muscle weakness. These events are thought to be associated with the injection and occurred within the first week.1

BOTOX® Cosmetic is contraindicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Do not exceed the recommended dosage and frequency of administration of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Patients with neuromuscular disorders may be at increased risk of clinically significant systemic effects including severe dysphagia and respiratory compromise from typical doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic for cosmetic purposes may result in the formation of antibodies that may reduce the effectiveness of subsequent treatments with BOTOX® Cosmetic for frown lines or BOTOX®; for other indications. However, the potential for antibody formation may be minimized if the lowest effective dose is given with the longest feasible intervals between treatments.1
